Snakes are one of the reptiles that appeared from the time when dinosaur evolved
and till now it can be found across many continents accept Antarctica, Iceland,
Ireland, Greenland and New Zealand. They have long and thin and flexible body
structure and they slither on ground as they do not have legs. Snake's eyes are
covered by clear scales rather than movable eyelids therefore, their eyes are
always open. The body temperature of the sakes changes according to their behavior.
There are about 2400 species of snakes living in this world. Snakes can usually
be found in deserts, forests, oceans, streams, and lakes. Some snakes live on
ground, some on trees and some in water. Snakes cannot stay in the Polar Regions
such as Ireland and New Zealand. Snakes are found in a huge range of colors, from
bright to dull. Bright colored snakes are generally venomous. The most of the
venomous snake is "The king Cobra". Its one drop of venom has the capacity
to kill 60 people at a time. The size of the snakes varies with species. The Largest
snake "Anaconda" can reach up to a maximum length of 39 feet. Snakes
can live their lives up to 50 years of life span.
Snakes consume a variety
of items including birds, frogs and other reptiles. They have the capability of
consuming their prey three times bigger than their head because their lower jaw
can separate from the upper jaw. Some snakes are venomous and injects venom to
their prey and waits until they die while some snakes squeezes their prey and
break their bones. Snakes hunts at nights.
They usually don't hunt everyday.
Anaconda and python can survive without consuming food till one year. Humans have
been hunting snakes for their skin and for consumption in many countries.
