Pigeons are the birds that were originally introduced into North American early
16000s. They are generally seen in the areas of Western and Southern Europe,
North Africa and South Asia. City buildings and their window ledges mimic the
rocky cliffs used by wild pigeons. They vary in color according to their species;
mostly wild pigeons are gray in color. They have got pale gray wings have two
black bars and broad with moderately pointed wingtips.
They are large pigeons and length up to a maximum length of 29-36 centimeters
(11-14 inches) including a wingspan of length 50-67 centimeters (20-26 centimeters)
and a maximum weight of 265-380 grams (9.35-13.41 ounces). Eye color of the
pigeon is generally an orange color but a few pigeons may have white-grey eyes.
The eyelids are orange in color and are encapsulated in a grey-white eye ring.
The feet are red to pink. Both male and female pigeons look alike, but male
averages larger and have more iridescence on neck.
They have a life span of 3-5 years and wild pigeons will have a lifespan of
15 years. They build their nests which contains loose saucer of leaves, stems,
roots, with no lining which is built on building ledges, under eaves, under
bridges, in traffic lights, on cliffs. They are also capable of flying at 28
to 82 meter per hour. Their diet mostly includes seeds, some greens, insects,
fast food and foods offered by humans.
