Penguins are found in the colder waters of oceans of the Southern Hemisphere.
Many live on the mainland and islands of Antarctica. Most people think of Antarctica
when they think of penguins. Penguins are the only birds that can swim but cannot
fly.
They have excellent skills of swimming which reaches the speed of 15 meter
per hour. They are divided into 6 groups that contain 15-18 different types
of penguins living in this world. Some species live near the shores of South
America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Galapagos Islands. They
are capable of diving in water to a depth of 900 meters and can stay underwater
till 200 minutes.
Penguins swim underwater with powerful strokes of their wings and use their
webbed feet and stiff tail as rudders. Most penguins have a black back and a
white belly. A penguin's diet depends on where it lives. Penguins live in nesting
colonies. Some species travel long distances to their nesting colonies. They
return to the same place, the same nest, and the same partner year after year.
They are having fewer predators that are why they are less afraid from humans.
