Peacocks in general are natives to Asia and can also be seen on ground and
tall grass and minnows in shallow streams in almost all the continent including
Africa, North America and Europe. With a huge fan of colorful tail feathers,
the peacock is famous as an ornamental bird. Peacocks are found in many of the
world's zoos.
In the wild they generally live in lowland forests. The body feathers of the
male blue peacock are beautiful and mostly blue-green in color. Those of the
male green peacock are mostly green and bronze. The male peacock puts on a showy
display as it tries to attract a mate. Peacock is omnivorous and eats plant
parts, flower petals, seed heads, insects and other arthropods and reptiles.
Peacock can be companion animals but there may be problems with dogs, cats
and other pets. Peacocks are now raised in almost every country. The birds have
been domesticated in many parts of the world, and there is a small but strong
group of breeders and trainers worldwide.
Because of human encroachment into their natural territories, peacocks and
humans have come into increasing contact. Because of their natural beauty some
are reluctant to classify the birds as pests, but their presence can be disturbing.
