Owls are known to be efficient hunters and the solitary group of birds of prey
and can be found in all regions on the earth except the regions of Antarctica
and Greenland. Owl is usually known to be sleeping during the day time and hunting
in night. Totally there are 162 species of owls found.
Owls have big head
and eyes facing forward unlike other birds having eyes on the sides of head. In
order to look around, owls can rotate their entire head near to their shoulders
at 270 degrees that help to see objects around them very efficiently. They have
got excellent and powerful sense of sight which gives them nice and deep clarity
just like telescopic vision. This exceptionally far sighted vision helps them
to catch their prey very easily in the very dark areas also.
Owls are very
active in the nights and their sound differs with species also they have good
sense of hearing that helps them in finding their prey. Owls hunt and eat rodents,
insects, frogs, and birds. Once the owl captures its prey, they tear it with sharp
hawk like beak and strong claws before they eat.
