Lizards are commonly found and fascinating creatures. There are 3000 species
of lizards living in this world and more thousands of different kinds and they
can be found almost everywhere in the world accept Antarctica. Lizards are old-blooded
animals, meaning that take on the temperature of their environment and they
are very closely related to snakes and are grouped together.
Most lizards are active during the day. Lizards spend much of their time looking
for food. Most lizards use their eyes to look for food. Some use their sense
of smell. Lizards have jaws with teeth. They also have teeth on the roof of
their mouth. Lizards feed on a wide variety of foods including fruits and vegetation,
insects, small tetra pods, carrion and even (in the cases of large predator
lizards) large prey such as deer. Lizards themselves are food for many birds,
mammals, and reptiles. Some lizards have the ability to change colors.
This is also known as metaphoric. The color changes according to light, temperature
or mood and also has the capability of regenerating lost limbs and tails. There
are two species of venomous lizards namely the Mexican beaded lizard and the
Gila monster, both of which live in northern Mexico and the southwest United
States.
Their bites cause serious injury and sometimes causes to death. Human are
a problem for lizards. Some people eat lizards or lizard eggs. In the past,
people killed lizards and sold their skin.
