Leopards are the mammals of Fieldale family and are the smallest cat among
the four big cats i.e. tiger, lion and jaguar. Leopards also differ in
color either very dark or fully black (also known as Black Panthers). Initially
they were seen in the regions of southern Eurasia, southern Africa, Korea and
Spain but they disappeared and now can be seen in most of the regions of Africa,
Indian subcontinent, Indochina, Malaysia and Western China.
Leopards are very quick moving and graceful animals that feed upon other animals.
Leopards are so powerful that they can take down large animals. Leopard's head
and body length is between 90 and 190 cm and tail reaches from 60 to 110 cm.
Their powerful shoulders length from 46 to 85 cm. Male leopards is comparatively
larger than the female leopards. Female leopards will weigh from 35 to 90 kilograms
in comparison to 28 to 60 kilograms of male leopards. They are very efficient
hunters and hunt nearly 90 different species of animals.
Leopards consume ungulates and monkeys, but rodents, reptiles, amphibians,
birds and fish are also consumed by them. Leopard traps his prey very silently
till the last minute and quickly bites and strangles its throat. Leopards are
having the ability to carry animals up to three times of their own weight. They
take them up to trees to keep other animals far away. Humans have been hunting
them for their skin that is why leopards are decreasing rapidly.
