A fox is very similar to a bushy-tailed dog but they are the smallest among
wolves, jackals, and domestic dogs. Foxes can generally be found all over the
world. Foxes usually live in burrows. Sometimes they build their homes in hollow
stumps of trees or in the narrow openings of rocks.
Foxes have long fur, pointed ears, relatively short legs, and narrow snouts.
Foxes live their life up to a maximum lifespan of 2 to 3 years but some foxes
can live unto 10 years. Most foxes do hide by the day and hunt by night. Their
diet contains rodents, insects, worms, fruits, birds, eggs and all other kind
of animals. They can also be seen in the cultivated regions of Eurasia, North
Africa, India, China, and Japan and in Australia.
The population of this animal is approximately 20 million. Many foxes are
helpful for humans in controlling undesirable rodents. Except for humans, the
fox has few enemies. Foxes can also be helpful for agricultural purposes. They
have been successfully employed to control pests on fruit farms, where they
leave the fruit intact. Some varieties of foxes are hunted for sport and others
are raised on farms for their fur, though both activities have caused controversy
and protests.
