The doves are the most commonly found birds in the regions of America. In the
summer, they migrate in Northern US and in winter they migrate in Southern US.
There are over 300 species of Dove living in this world. Dove builds their nests
by the means of dry leaves and sticks. This bird has a flimsy nest that has 2
small eggs inside of it. The nest is at least 5 to 6 feet up into a tree. The
Doves usually live in colonies of 10 or more. The doves lays up to a maximum number
of 3 eggs and it takes 3 weeks to hatch.The female dove cares the younger ones
until they are able to fly.
They mainly eat grasses, weeds, beans, and
high protein foods. They also do consume soybeans, sunflowers, peas, cucumbers,
grain and wheat. The dove can live up to a maximum lifespan of 20 years. Adult
male dove have forehead, face below the eye, throat and have breast that are black
in color, giving the species a mask-like appearance.
The head of the female
is grayish-brown with whitish forehead, face and throat, obscure blackish postural
spot and dull brown line from gape to eye. In earlier times, doves were killed
by humans every year and even in todays time 45 million doves are killed
each year. In western areas, population of doves is slowly decreasing.
