Cows are the animals that are well known for producing milk which is consumed
by lots of people across the world from past several years. Cows are generally
biggest animals on the farm and hairy also and can be can be easily found in
pastures and fields and moreover you can see cows freely moving everywhere.
A cow may weigh up to 1000 to 1500 pounds and are milked for an average of 3-4
years.
Daily cows provide 90% of world's milk supply. Cows can live their life up
to a maximum span of 25 to 29 years. Cows are fed up to eight times per day.
Cows love eating grass and eat as much as they can. They have four compartments
in their stomach that helps them to digest their food well. Apart from eating
grass, they do also love eating mixture of hay, corn, barley, field grasses,
and cotton seed and can drink water almost 25-30 gallons in a single day. Cows
have 32 teeth in their mouth and their average body temperature is 101.5°F.
Farmers usually put identification marks on their cows so that they can be
easily recognized. The size of the cows differs with various breeds. Cows are
very silent in nature but sometimes they do go wild and may attack, so kids
must always stay away. Cows are ruminants animals means, animals which
are cud chewing mammals. Sheep and camels also are ruminants. A cow chews her
cud for up to 8 hours each day. A cow is also called as cattle. The mother cattle
with a calf are called a "cow", a young female cattle cow without
cattle is called a heifer and male cattle are called a "bull". In
some countries, such as India, they are honored in religious ceremonies and
revered.
