The cats are one of the well known domestic or wild animals and are also known
to be "the sleepiest" among all mammals. They sleep 16 hours a day.
Cats can be found almost everywhere. They can be found in houses as pets and
roaming on streets. Cats have excellent and advanced sense of smelling, eyesight
and hearing which is 14 times better and clear than a human.
Cats have been associated with human from past 9500 years. The size of a cat
usually weighs between 2.5 and 7 kg however some breeds of cats may exceed up
to 11.3 Kg. The largest cat in the world named "Himmy" who was weighted
21.3 Kg and was 96 cm long. They have very sharp teeths by which it becomes
easier for them to tear the meat. A cat will always sniff its food before eating
and scent marks are an essential part of feline communication. A cat will commonly
consume meat and milk. Unlike dogs and most mammals, cats walk by moving both
legs on one side and then both legs on the other. An average cat can be expected
to live for an average of 15 to 16 years or more depending upon the nutrition
been given to cats.
A domestic cat can run at speeds of about 31 miles per hour. Cats have excellent
night vision and can see much better than us even in a badly lit environment,
though they cannot see in total darkness. Heart Rate (beats per minute) of cats
ranges from 140 - 220 and the Body Temperature (in Fahrenheit) of cats ranges
from 100.5° - 102.5°. In ancient Egypt, killing a cat was a crime punishable
by death. One of the facts of cat is that they never think that they are small
people, they think they are big cats. This influences their behavior in many
ways.
