Buffalo are heavily built animals and are generally found in the grassy areas.
Mostly all buffalo have horns, their horn greatly vary in shapes as well as in
size.Buffalos range up to a maximum length of 7 to 8 feets and a tail ranging
up to 3 feet and weighs up to 800 to 2000 lbs.
A buffalo's habitat varies.They
live primarily on plains, prairies, river valleys and sometimes forests. They
spend a great deal of time grazing on grasses and digesting their food. People
value it as a beast of burden that can pull or carry things on its broad back.
Farmers have taken over some of the lands where wild buffalo live. Buffalos mates
in the month of July to October. Their lifespan is up to a maximum of 15 to 20
years and an adult buffalos may live up to 30 years.
The American buffalo
is the largest terrestrial animal in North America. A buffalo will eat anywhere
from 2% to 3% of their body weight "A DAY!!!" This means for every 1,000
pounds, 20 to 30 pounds of food is needed. Buffalo (Bison) can weigh up to 2,000
pounds so if you do the math that is over 60 pounds of food per animal per day.
Humans have hunted the animals in large numbers for food and for their hides.
Diseases spread by domestic animals have also decreased the population of wild
buffalo.
During the 15th century The Indians depended on the animal for
survival and used every part of the buffalo but thanks to federal regulation and
careful breeding, there are now about 30,000 buffalo in national parks and privately
owned Rangel and such as Bear Country U.S.A.
